In his keynote presentation, Costis Hadjimichalis, Professor Emeritus of Harokopio University in Athens, offers a critical overview of the institutionalization of neoliberal ideas and of neoliberal regional policies in the EU. He explores both the theoretical framework and a real impact of EU regional policies on an increasingly uneven geographical development and regional inequalities. Most importantly, he offers five steps that we can take to learn from past failures, to communicate more effectively about these problems, and to reverse ineffective and undemocratic policies within the EU.
